The 2018 season officially got under way on a damp, dark and drizzly day in Dartford. KHCC 2nds fielded a strong side and were looking to pick up where they left off last year. The toss didn’t go Skipper Matt Blewett’s way and KHCC were asked to bat in tricky conditions.
Tom McGeorge and Graham Hutchins got things off to the perfect start, with a 51 run opening stand. Neil Scott and Dave Sutton then got together shortly thereafter and the pair combined for another 50 plus partnership.
It proved a great platform. With Dave going on to finish just three short of a fifty, and some contributions down the order, KHCC finished with a very competitive 181.
Danny McLean and Alex Chapman opened the bowling and after a few deliveries to find their range both picked up an early wicket with Danny also removing the dangerous opener. Ryan Ambanpola came on and picked up two quick wickets with his leggies to leave Dartfordians up against it at 66 for 5.
They dug deep and an aggressive 60 run partnership put them back in the game. A good catch by Graham off Paul Clifton eventually broke the stand, as the darkness started closing in. KHCC came together well to make sure they finished the job, collecting maximum points on the day – a great start to the season.
